Exploratorium

Today I learnt from Miss Terri about a famous museum in San Francisco. It is called Exploratorium. It is a hands-on museum of science, art, and human perception.

It aims to spark our curiosity. We can touch, pick up and try on hundred of different experiments. More than half a million visitors, including 130,000 students and teachers on school field trips, come to the Exploratorium each year. The Web site, at www.exploratorium.edu, receives more than 28 million distinct visits annually, and more than 20 million people see Exploratorium-designed exhibits displayed at science centers around the world.

I hope one day I can visit the place and try to tinker with hundred of exhibits.

Time Management

I learned to use Google calendar today. It helps me to organize my time more effectively and meaningfully. I will start using it this summer.

There are three things I must bear in mind:
  1. Make a good use of my time by organizing my tasks
  2. Prioritize my tasks and make sure that I will work out not only the urgent things but also the important things.
  3. Keep a good social network.

Article

Your teacher has asked you to write an article for the school newsletter telling new students about the clubs at your school.

I would like to introduce the clubs at our school. Before I introduce them, I would like to give your four reasons to join the clubs. By joining the clubs, we can make friends, learn new things, go trips and spend time with friends. There are four clubs in our school. They are Computer Club, Art Club, Drama Club, and Model Club.

To join Computer Club, you will learn to use computers to do postcards or posters. You can also use the computers in our computer rooms on Monday and Friday after school.

To join Art Club, you will learn some drawing skills. You can also use the Art Room after school.

To join Drama Club, you will learn how to play in a drama. The drama club has performance twice a year. They meet every Wednesday in the school hall at lunch time.

To join Model Club, you will learn how to make, e.g. Kodat model and to colour models. They meet at lunch time on Monday.

I hope you now have better ideas about the four clubs of our school and you will find a suitable one to join.

A Reflection Note - My English Test

We are what we repeatedly do, excellence is not an act, but a habit.
If we repeat our mistake frequently, the mistake is no longer an act, it becomes a habit. To avoid mistake, we must reflect on the mistake made.

Why didn't I get a good grade for my English test as I expected?
It was because I missed a part of the test which I thought was difficult. I intentionally left it until the end of the test. Unfortunately, I forgot to revisit the missed part because I ran out of time.I spent too much time in other parts.

I learned from the experience that I must work faster next time. Also, I should leave some time to review the whole paper at the end of the test. Maybe I should not skip the difficult part. I should have spent time finishing all the parts of the test according to the normal sequence according to the estimated time I should have spent.

Excellence Quote

We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.

How to improve the effect of my English learning

First of all, I think I must see learning as an integrated part of my life. My survival relies on it. I am taking it into my rountine. So, sooner or later it will become a habit. In other words, I will just automatically think and repeat what I have learnt from my teachers every day. For example, when I am on my way home or when I take my dog for a walk, I will recall what I was taught at school. I will think and see how I can apply the knowledge I learn to my daily life.

Secondly, I will read and listen to English as much as I can. In other words, I will make sure that the reading is meaningful and relevant to my life. I need the knowledge to grow mentally, so I become smarter when dealing with similar situation mentioned in the books or the conversations I heard.

Lastly, I think I should rejoice in the process of learning. I feel satisfied and energised.
